We’ll come out as a digital device exporting country: PM

The Prime Minister said that the outline of Bangladesh in 2041 has already been prepared in the meantime. "We have been dependent on export of only one product so far," she said. By making it versatile, ICT i.e. digital device will be made in Bangladesh and exported abroad. Many companies have already started coming to Bangladesh. Has invested too. As a result, the country is improving. At present 15 companies are producing mobiles in the country. These manufactured phones are being exported to major markets in South-West Asia to meet the needs of the country. Bangladesh is now emerging as an exporter in the high-tech industry with home-made devices like the garment industry. She added that, the ICT industry is expanding in the country today. As a result we are now able to produce laptops, mobiles, tabs all but ourselves. We have reduced the import duty on the small parts needed to make these in this budget as well. To meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 33 specialized labs of high technology including IoT, robotics and cyber security have been set up in different universities of the country. We are creating computer labs in schools, various institutes to ensure world class opportunities and environment for research. She was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the incubator set up at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on Wednesday (July 6) morning by joining a video conference from Ganobhaban. Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Tofazzal Hossain Mia were also present on the occasion from Ganobhaban. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak welcomed the gathering from the same end. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan; Law Minister Anisul Haque; Education Minister Dipu Moni; Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar; Environment, Forests and Climate Minister Shahab Uddin and Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury were present at the event at virtually from the ICT Tower. Senor Secretary of ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam conducted the ceremony. Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder, former Chairman Zahurul Haque, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, former MD Hosne Ara Begum and others were also present at that time. ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for Chittagong-6 constituency from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Vice Chancellor of CUET Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shirin Akhtar, Senior administrative officials and beneficiaries were also present.
